Sailor Moon Collection

Sample Icon Ever since I fell in love with Sailor Moon and practically becoming a very passionate fan of the latter as the years went on, I personally felt the aspiration to become even more involved with series' fandom, hence this also comprised of starting my very own collection of Sailor Moon merchandise!

That said, while growing up in Germany, I would consider the Sailor Moon merchandise that was accessible to us back in the days, to have been rather spare; I might be complaining at a high level here, since the amount of books and media we had was indeed impressive. However, as a primary toy collector, the lack of dolls, compacts & wands has always been a little disappointing. If we take a closer look at, for instance Italy; Giochi Preziosi basically reproduced most of the original Japanese toy releases in the 90s (i.e. all of the wands, compacts and other magical items). Said company also produced and sold unique doll-lines that were absolutely stunning and beautifully made (the Italian dolls are my favorite to this day).

I mostly purchase vintage Japanese collectibles and goods from eBay, but I also acquire them through Mandarake, Yahoo Japan Auctions and Mercari; these are all places I absolutely recommend to visit, if you're looking for vintage toys in particular. The beginnings

and the progress

I started collecting in 2008/2009-ish; the pieces I collected varied from dolls, compacts & wands, figures, artbooks and stationary; even houshold items, cosmetics and apparel weren't neglected in the process. As the years passed by, I unfortunately became gradually unhappy with my collection, despite its extend and the obvious sweat and effort I put into gathering/assembling all of the items I had collected so far. I felt like a change was absolutely necessary at this point, thus I started my collection anew; I developed a fully fleshed out plan on how I will continue collecting Sailor Moon merchandise. This consisted of selling pieces I didn't need anymore, but keeping the ones I didn't wanna part with. That said, my collection experienced a genuine shift, as I decided to merely collect merchandise that encompassed the SuperS season and even more precisely, Sailor Chibi Moon.

why sailor chibi moon & supers merchandise only?

This is a valid question, taking into account what has been stated in the about section of the site; Sailor Venus is my favorite sailor senshi and that alone eventually resulted in, for instance, the choice of my own nickname or that of my very first web-project. Hence, it indeed requires further enlightenment on why I decided to narrow my collection to the point of solely collecting Sailor Chibi Moon and SuperS merchandise.

While I personally consider Sailor Venus to be my absolute favorite Pretty Guardian, Sailor Chibi Moon aka Tsukino Chibiusa follows close behind. That in mind, my favorite season of the original series is thereby easy to assume: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon SuperS. This is, by any means, not a common choice at all, given how genuinely loathed this season is in the fandom. I personally enjoyed the plot and the newly introduced characters a lot (the enemies in particular) and the season also harbors one of my favorite endings: Watashi-tachi ni Naritakute (私たちになりたくて ; "Wanting to Be Together with You"). In terms of Sailor Moon merchandise, my main focus lies on vintage toys of any kind (dolls, compacts & wands etc.). Unfortunately, there isn't much to collect when it comes to Sailor Venus, apart from the dolls and figures; while I would totally consider collecting them as well, the range of said toys isn't sufficient enough to build a fully-fledged collection.

However, I still pursue collectibles that I have wanted for ages, regardless of what category they fall into. For instance, there is this absolutely gorgeous Tuxedo Mirage Memorial Ornament PROPLICA x Figuarts Zero chouette by Bandai, I simply had to get my hands on! It's a very detailed copy of the original Tuxedo Mirage Music Box as seen in the Sailor Moon S ending of the series. Simply gorgeous - nuff said xx. Hence, I apparently collect everything I want to collect, as in being more selective than I used to be when I first started collecting. This also does not exclude newly realeased collectibles; I'm loving all of the Proplica toy releases so far, as well as several figurines and those super neat Q Poskets xx.

Collection Showcase

I used to showcase my collection on Minakos-Sailormoonpage.net, but keeping that section updated turned out to be very tiring and exhausting, hence I decided to create an Instagram account in order to post and ramble about the newest additions to my collection; this makes it way easier for me to manage a proper organization of my collectibles, and basically facilitates meeting other collectors!
